Amos Yaskil, born in Palestine 1935, stands as a paragon for a generation of artists who actively took part in the development of the state of Israel from the first day of its foundation in 1948. Amos’ father, a Polish Jew who came to Leipzig, Germany, in 1915 to enrol at the art school there, also earned his living as a painter, but in contrast to his son, his early biography represents rather the generation of young intellectuals that belonged to the Leipzig art scene of the 1920’s. With his autobiographic memories, which reveal some very personal stories, Amos takes us back in time to the culture and society that played an integral role for both of the these generations. Within this historical framework the stories reveal the history of the Yaskil family over two generations with -focus on Amos’ multifaceted life as an artist.
